What is a CSCS card?
The Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card proves that workers on UK construction sites have the training and qualifications needed for the job they do. Most main contractors and major house builders require a valid CSCS card before allowing anyone on site.
Green — Labourer
For workers in a labouring occupation. Requires the CITB HS&E Operatives test and an approved Health & Safety qualification.
Blue — Skilled Worker
For workers who have completed an NVQ/SVQ Level 2, an employer-sponsored apprenticeship, or a recognised industry qualification.
Gold — Advanced Craft / Supervisor
For supervisors and advanced craft workers holding an NVQ/SVQ Level 3 or supervisory qualifications.
Black — Manager
For construction managers with an NVQ/SVQ Level 4, 5, 6 or 7 in a construction-related discipline.
How to apply

How long it's valid
Most CSCS cards are valid for 5 years. You'll need to renew before the expiry date to keep working on site without interruption.
Lost or damaged?
If your card is lost, stolen or damaged you can order a replacement of the same card type — no need to re-take the test.
